Mueller Michael

Tenor

 

Tenor Michael Müller, after first training to be a horn player, studied opera and concert singing at the Saar Conservatory of Music. After this, he completed his studies at the prestigious Eastman School of Music, New York, USA. His teachers include Ks. Brigitte Fassbaender, Margreet Honig and Jason Stearns.

Whilst still a student, he was engaged by the Saarländische Staatstheater and was Visiting Artist at MIT Boston. He sang the role of Alfred Hersland in the World Premiere of the opera The Making of Americans at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. This led to further engagements at the Concert Halls of Shenzhen and Beijing, the Munich Biennale, the Staatstheater Oldenburg, the Rostock, Koblenz and Bremerhaven opera houses, the Zwingenberg Opera Festival, Merzig Tent Opera and finally at Kiel Opera House, where he has been a permanent member of the repertory company since the 2009/10 season.


Major roles have included Erik (The Flying Dutchman), Jim Mahoney (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), Loge (Das Rheingold), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Fenton (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Narraboth (Salome) and Camille de Rosillon (Die lustige Witwe).

He has worked with directors such as Christopher Alden, John Dew, Philip Himmelmann, Daniel Karasek, Johann Kresnik and Christoph Pöppelreiter, as well as Brigitte Fassbaender, Sandra Leupold, and Andrea Moses.
He received particular encouragement from conductors Georg Fritzsch and Constantin Trinks.

Beside his opera career, Michael Müller persues a career on the concert podium.

For Schott Edition Mainz and Saarland Radio he has recorded rediscovered Jewish Cantor songs and Britten’s Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo.

In 2007, he received grants from the Richard Wagner Society and Alois Lauer Foundation, and holds an Ambassadorial Scholarship of Goodwill from the Rotary Foundation. The association of friends of the Kiel Theatre awarded him the Advancement Award of up and coming artists for the 2011/12 season.
