Batzios Labrini


Greek dramatic soprano Labrini Batzios was born in Ioannina. At the age of 6 she started piano and violoncello lessons as well as superior theoretic lessons at the Hepirotic Conservatory. In 1994 she graduated her Piano Degree and her Superior Theoretics Degree both of them with grade Excellent and Unanimous Vote.

In 1994 she started singing lessons under Kiki Morfoniou at the Superior Athens Conservatory and she continued her piano lessons under Penelope Efstratiadis. In 1998 she graduated her Piano Diploma with grade Excellent and in 1999 she graduated her Opera Diploma with grade Excellent and 1st Prize.

In 2001, after gaining a scholarship from "J. Latsis" Enterprises, she started studying the roles of her repertory with renowned figures of opera like Ghena Dimitrova, Kostas Paskalis and Nicola Zaccharia. She has also attended many opera seminars with Gundula Janowitz, Paolo Montarsolo, Luigi Alva etc.

She has also attended piano, violoncello and conducting seminars with Constantinos Kydoniatis, A.V. Beek, R.J. Carson, R. Terroni, D. Chorafas, Ch. Sfetsas, S. Politis, D. Gouzios etc.

As a professional opera singer, in 1995 she represented her native country –Greece- at the 50th Anniversary from the end of the 2nd World War at Hyde Park in London, where she sang Opera arias.

In 2000, at the age of 23, she debuted at the Greek National Opera where she sang the role of Phaedra from the opera "Kostas Karyotakis" by Mikis Theodorakis.

Furthermore, in collaboration with the National Orchestras of Plovdiv, Croatia and Slovenia she sang the roles of Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Odabella (Attila), Manon Lescaut, Tosca, Donna Leonora (La forza del Destino), Elvira (Ernani), Leonora (Il Trovatore), Elisabetta (Don Carlo) and Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly) at various Greek cities as well as at tours around Balcan countries. She has also given many personal recitals ,one of them in honor to the President of the Greek Republic.

As a pianist, in 1992 she was chosen from Constantinos Kydoniatis to play his Suite for piano, viola, clarinet and orchestra at its 1st Presentation Worldwide and as a violoncellist she was a member at the World's Youth Symphony Orchestra on tour in 1991 and 1992 at France, Spain and Germany.

She has collaborated with many conductors such as A.V. Beek, Manuel Palau, Wang Jin, Nikos Tsouhlos, Elias Voudouris etc.

Future collaborations include Anzio Opera Festival in Rome where she will sing the role of Turandot from G. Puccini's "Turandot", Daniel Oren conducting as well as the Budapest State Opera where she will sing the role of Abigaille from G. Verdi's "Nabucco" on tour at Slovakia and Poland.
