Schenk Juliane

Soprano

 

Soprano Juliane Schenk, a native of Steinfurt, Germany, has been a member of the ensemble of Theater Plauen-Zwickau since 2009. At Theater Plauen-Zwickau, she has sung many of the roles of her voice type: Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Rosina (Der Barbier von Sevilla), Madeleine (Ball im Savoy), Eurydike (Orpheus in der Unterwelt) and Titania (Ein Sommernachtstraum).
Previous operatic performances, have taking Juliane Schenk to venues such as National Theater Weimar, Theater Aachen, the Cologne Opera, and the Young Chamber Opera Cologne.
Highlights include performances at the National Theater Weimar of roles such as the First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Arminda (Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe), Annina (Eine Nacht in Venedig), and Josepha Vogelhuber (Im weissen Rössl).
Upcoming engagements for 2012/13 Season include her debut at Theater Fürth as the Großherzogin von Gerolstein (Offenbach), and an expansion of her repertoire at Theater Plauen- Zwickau with performances of Sylva Varescu (Die Czardasfu rstin) and Agathe (Der Freischόtz).
In addition to her operatic repertoire, Juliane Schenk has showed diversity in both concert and
solo work. As a recitalist, Highlights include, her acclaimed portrayal of Lola Blau in the solo work Heute Abend: Lola Blau (George Kreisler), a recital of Brecht Songs at the Philharmonie Cologne, and joint recital at the Cantiere Festival in Montepulciano, Italy. In 2011 she sang Reinhold Glieres Concert for solo-soprano and orchester.
A graduate of Musikhochschule Köln and a previous member the prestigious Opera Studio of the National Theater Weimar, Juliane Schenk has received many notable vocal awards including 1st prize at the Lortzing Voice Competition (Leipzig 2012), 3rd prize at Landeswettbewerb Gesang Nordrhein-Westfallen (2004), mention as finalist at Berheimer Sängerpreis, and was featured in an career portrait by Deutschlandradio in August 2011 (“An excellent singer”, 55 minutes). As well, she has received scholarships from the Richard-Wagner-Verband Cologne, Musikstiftung Cologne, Dr. Franz Stüsse-Stiftung, and from the Kölner Gymnasial-und Stiftungsfonds.
