Ioannidou Eleni
Soprano
Soprano Eleni Ioannidou, was born in Breslau (Poland) to a greek father and polish mother.
The family moved to Greece, where she studied Agriculture and attended the Conservatory of Volos, where she graduated with honors. She studied then at the “Atheneum” Conservatory with Kostas Paschalis and was awarded a fellowship for exceptional Greek singers in Megaro Mousikis. She later attended the School of Music and Performance Art in Vienna and studied privatly with Hilde Zadek. After that she participated in the two-year course of the european comunity “theater and music” organised from the „Accademia di arte drammatica di Roma“ in Prato (Italy) and finaly she frequented the Accademia della Scala di Milano, selctioned from Leyla Gencer in order to sing the leading roles in the revival of two Donizetti-operas “Ugo, conte di Parigi” and “Parisina”. In these both courses she studied with important singers and directors such as Ugo Tessitore, Ugo Gregoretti, Paolo Terni, Leyla Gencer, Luciana Serra, Paolo Negri, Marise Flach, and Luigi Alva.
Her solo career began in 1998 with a selection of La Traviata at the Theater Mancinelli von Orvieto and next Year the role of Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme in the same theater. She then performed Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, Puccini’s Tosca and Leonora inVerdi’s Il Trovatore (in the Chamber opera of Milano) and the role of The Primadonna in a selection of Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos in Prato. Later, she sang the role of Bianca in the Donizetti opera “Ugo, conte di Parigi” at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi of Milano and Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, 2004 and 2005, and “Parisina” Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo, 2005.
In Mozart-year 2006 she debuted as the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro at the Athens State Opera and won first prize in the Giuseppe di Stefano contest and was subsequently awarded the role of Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte) to be performed at the „Maggio Musicale Trapanese“. In 2007 she performed the same role at La Scala di Milano and at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano with reknowned regie of Giorgio Strehler. In 2008 she sang the role of Violetta in Verdi’s “La Traviata” in Bergamo. In Germany she performed Concerts with the Opera House of Passau with Verdi and Rossini repertoire, Stabat Mater of Rossini in the Münchner Residenz and many concerts with Verdi and Wagner repertory. She performed in Christmas time 2010 the Mother in Menotti´s “Amahl” in Munich where she was very aclaimed not only for her voice but also theatrical skills.
She also performed at the Gala Concert in Colombia with the Corps de Ballet Opera Garnier de Paris (2008),sang a series of Concerts with Puccini music in Japan (2009) and in February 2007 was chosen by Jose Carreras as soloist at a Leuchemia-Benefit concert at the Megaron Mousikis in Athens. She was named the winner at the„Velluti“- and the „Giuseppe di Stefano“ contests, and was twice a finalist at the „Voci Verdiane“ contest in Busseto.
