Spanatis Nikos

He made his debut in The Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens (Athens and Epidaurus Festival 2003), with ERT National Symphonic Orchestra & Choir as Carpoforos and Messenger in N. Mamagkakis’s "Erofili". He has also performed at Palm Sunday Mass of the Basilica of Saint Marcus’ Cathedral in Venice (April 2009). Amongst his most recent performances are those with the Greek Baroque Ensemble ‘Ionian Early Music Ensemble’ in various Greek cities and also in Italy. He has appeared as a soloist in International Festival for NY Scenekunst in Denmark, Onassis Cultural Centre and YELP Dance Company in Athens, Athens and Thessaloniki Concert Halls, Opera festival of Ancient Corinth 2006, Christmas Early Music Festival in Goethe Institute of Athens, Music Festival for the 15 years of the Department of Music Studies of Ionian University, a.o. He has studied with the sopranist Aris Christophellis and the soprano Mata Katsuli. He has performed as Marcellien -Twin Brother "Le martyre de Saint Sébastien" by Cl. Debussy, Pisandro "Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria" by Cl. Monteverdi, Nireno "Giulio Cesare" by Georg Frederic Händel, Spirit "Dido and Aeneas" by Purcell, a.o. Nikos Spanatis has collaborated with Orchestra of Colours, «Monteverdi» orchestral ensemble, Ionian Brass Ensemble, Lyrae Cantus, Plura Videte Baroque, Orchestra of Patras, Orchestra and Choir of Corfu, a.o. Nikos has performed with such artists as Lily Maisky, Ermis Theodorakis. He has attended Master Classes led by Aris Christofellis, Michael Chance, Jeanette Pilou, Daphne Evangelatou, Annette Market, Rachel Yakar, Peter Seymour. He was born in Frankfurt. He completed his singing studies with the soprano Mata Katsuli at the F. Nakas Conservatory in 2005 with an excellently unanimously diploma and 1st prize. He holds a University Degree from the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University (supervisor professor: soprano Rosa Poulimenou. He is currently doing a PhD research on Händel’s operas. He has been an active member of the Opera Studio of the Greek National Opera since 2010 and he has performed Ascanio (Ascanio in Alba, Mozart), Oberon (Midsummer Night's Dream, Britten), Baba the Turk (The Rake's Progress, Stravinsky). He has sung works by Greek composers ( D. Maragopoulos,a.o.), appears frequently in personal recitals in Greece and in other European Countries (Amsterdam, Germany, Italy) and also has made recordings for the Greek Classical - Third Program. He has also recorded G. F. Händel's Giulio Cesare as Nireno under George Petrou (by MDG, Germany) and Nikos Mamagakis's Erofili as Carpoforos and Mesenger and Shadow Opera as Morfonios (for IDAIA, Greece).
