Georgios Vranos
Conductor
Born in 1969 in Athens, Georgios Vranos is since June 2010 appointed professor of orchestra conducting at the Department of music, science and arts at the Macedonian University of Thessaloniki and artistic director of the department’s orchestra.
He was appointed First Conductor and deputy General Music Director at the State Theatre in Coburg (2008 - 2010) and at the theatre in Regensburg (2003 -2008), where he also acted as General Music Director during the season 2004/05. During this time he conducted among others Norma, Carmen, Un ballo in maschera and Lulu as well as symphonic concerts (with the participation of the cathedral choir “Regenburger Domspatzen”) and gained consistently positive critics even beyond the region.
In addition to his academic activities Georgios Vranos regularly appeared as guest conductor at renowned orchestras such as the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the Athens "Orchestra of Colors" (live broadcast on the Greek radio), the Athens Symphony Orchestra and the Camerata Athens (chief conductor Sir Neville Marriner).
During his first engagement as solo repetitor at the Theater Pforzheim and later as a 2nd Conductor (1997 - 2003) he led in two consecutive years an opera gala in honor of Maria Callas: 1998 at the Munich Gasteig with the Chamber Philharmonic of St. Petersburg and in 1999 with the Munich Symphony Orchestra at the Prince Regent Theatre Munich. As an assistant of Theodor Guschlbauer and Miltiadis Carydis, he worked in 1996 with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Athens.
His repertoire is completed with several world premieres, with, amongst others, the South German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim.
Parallel to his study of contemporary music and composition, he learned the piano at the National Conservatory of Athens and finished with disctinction. Subsequent to this education a postgraduate study followed as an Onassis fellow with Prof. Hermann Michael at the Musikhochschule München (1990 - 1995).
