Kanaris Giorgos

Baritone


Giorgos Kanaris was born in Athens and began studying singing with Despina Kalafati. Furthermore, he took singing lessons from Josef Metternich and attended master classes of Helmut Rilling and Thomas Quastoff in Stuttgart. He studied as a scholar in the master class of Professor Daphne Evangelatos at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.

In 2005 Giorgos Kanaris was awarded in the category “Oratorio/Lied” at the Maria Callas Grand Prix and was engaged to concerts conducted by Helmut Rilling.
In 2008 he was soloist in Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” at the Gasteig Cultural Centre in Munich and at the Cairo Opera House. Further engagements were in Athens, in Prinzregententheater Munich, in Markgräfliches Opera House Bayreuth and in RuhrTriennale.
Since 2009/2010 is Giorgos Kanaris member of the Opera House Bonn.  Massimo in Haendel’s EZIO was his début role. He also sang Shaunard in Puccini’s LA BOHÈME, Ping in TURANDOT, the titlerole of DON GIOVANNI as well as Masetto, Dancairo in CARMEN, Graf in WILDSCHÜTZ, Pantalone in Prokofjew’s LIEBE ZU DEN DREI ORANGEN and Belcore in ELISIR D’AMORE.
Besides his opera repertoire is Giorgos Kanaris also in the field of Lied active. His repertoire includes Schumann’s DICHTERLIEBE and LIEDERKREIS, Schubert’s SCHWANENGESANG, Ravel’s DON QUIXOTTE  as well as Lieder of Strauss and Pfitzner.
Giorgos Kanaris is prize-winner of the Laubach Song Contest 2009 and he is invited to sing at the Beethovenfestival in Warsaw in 2012. In 2010 he was awarded the prize of the “Opera Friends Bonn”, which is given every two years. He is also a scholar of the Richard-Wagner-Foundation for 2011.
In 2011/12 he is going to perform Nardo in LA FINTA GIARDINIERA, Schauspieler in Schreker’s DER FERNE KLANG, Frédéric in Delibe’s LAKMÉ and Herr Fluth in Nicolai’s DIE LUSTIGEN WEIBER VON WINDSOR in Bonn.
