Metaxaki Evmorfia

Soprano

The greek soprano Evmorfia Metaxaki was presented to the public at the Salzburg Festival as a “star of the new generation CON BRIO”. She has made her successful debut there in 2006, where she performed the Mozart roles of Mademoiselle Silberklang and Bastienne. Ms.Metaxaki’s performance “Bastien/Bastienne und der Schauspieldirektor” has been captured on DVD by Deutsche Grammophon.

The Athens-born singer studied at the National Conservatory of Athens. She continued her education with Lilian Sukis at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg and attended master classes given by Barbara Bonney, Thomas Hampson and Hartmut Höll. During the course of her studies she received her earliest stage experience by making guest appearances at the Landestheater Salzburg. She completed her Master’s degree in “Opera and Musical Theater” with the highest honors. For her interpretation of Susanna in “Le Nozze di Figaro” she received the prestigious “Lilly Lehmann”-Medal, the highest award given by the International Mozarteum Foundation.

From 2004 to 2010, Evmorfia Metaxaki has been a member of the ensemble at the Theater Magdeburg and she was the recipient of the prestigious “Förderpreis für junge Künstler” (Special Prize for Young Artists). She could build up her opera repertoire with parts such as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Hirt (Tannhäuser), Ilia (Idomeneo), Musetta (La Bohème), Eurydice (Orphée aux enfers), and Despina (Così fan tutte).

At the 19th Magdeburg Telemann Festival 2009 she sang Rodelinda in Telemann’s Flavius Bertaridus. She also worked with the renowned director Andreas Kriegenburg in his first opera productions, Mozart’s Idomeneo and Gluck’s Orpheus und Eurydike. The Gluck production was nominated for the esteemed German Theater Award “Faust” in 2006.

In the upcoming season 2011/12, the artist will be on tour with the renowned barock ensemble Lautten Compagney (co-production with the Händel Festival Halle, the Theater Winterthur and the Associazione Grupporiani Milano) and she will debut the role of Armida in Händel’s Rinaldo.

In Ms. Metaxaki’s 2010/11 season with the Potsdamer Winteroper, she was appearing as Clorinda in Rossini’s Cenerentola (co-production with Potsdamer Kammerakademie, Hans Otto Theater and Brandenburger Theater). In 2010 she was finalist at the International Singing Competition GRANDI VOCI in Salzburg. Most recently, she has had great success with the role of Maria in Bernstein’s West Side Story at the Volkstheater Rostock.

Evmorfia Metaxaki has made guest appearances at the Staatstheater Mainz (Musetta-La Bohème), the Staatstheater Braunschweig (Valencienne-Die lustige Witwe), the Staatstheater Meiningen, Cottbus and the Theater of Erfurt. Other roles in her developing repertoire include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Adina in L’elisir d’amore and Anne Trulove in Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress.
